Whispers..

i've often get asked why?

why do you gather and search for what once was...

why is there such a pull to the discarded...

each item i unearth holds a whisper...

a whisper of a life, of struggles, of beauty...

i can hold a piece that was once loved and cherished...

i am seeing with the eyes of old...

i am listening to a story that needs to be shared and not forgotten...

what whispers do you hear in {what once was} ?

His voice in is the still small whisper...I listen.

I just found this blog...and subscribed. I am an artist working on getting an Etsy shop opened this year.

oh, Kim , I have some of that cotton, My mil crochets fine fine incredibly beautiful things with it . Including one of my daughter's communion dresses.

and I actually just wrote a poem about hearing from the past. I have some old photographs of relatives that I know very little about truthfully, but oh how they sing. And in an uplifting way now, not a haunting way as before.

That is part of my attraction to old objects - the stories that they hold. Sometimes the stories are handed down with the objects, while other times we need to use our imaginations to flesh out the possibilities. Love your concept of whispers!

SO beautiful Kristin. I truly believe that things were meant to go on and tell their story and it is so wonderful that you are there to listen. :)

yes, all those same things. i especially love old tools, wondering what they were used for, what was created, who they helped. a lovely post.

love your image so much kristin ...

all of your work exemplifies the whisperings
of all this past and 'faded' ... it is evident how
much they speak to you ...
you so wonderfully capture them
keeping them 'alive' ... : )

i, too have this strong pull to what was ...
the patina on a wooden handle ...
the bits of paint chipped ...
thinking of the hands that lovingly tatted
the doily on a bitter cold winter's evening ...
oh, the tales they could tell ...
it is almost an unconscious whisper, isn't it ...

thank you for your most lovely post ~
