Special Moments

Hi there! I am thrilled to be here and so humbled to have been asked by Kim to be a part of this lovely group. The opportunity to make new friends, share my art, my inspirations and so much more sounds wonderful.

I am Ivy, an artist with a love for many creative disciplines I am a designer, painter and illustrator. Because of my interest in various art forms my husband one day said, “Ivy, you’re all over the place” and so the name Ivyallover was formed. I continue to explore creatively, challenging myself daily, learning and finessing who I am as an artist. With my topic Art, Life, Laughter I hope to bring to you inspiration through my life as an artist who just happens to be well, … “allover” the place.

Today I’d like to share with you special moments of my week with Grandma, my “abuelita”(grandma in Spanish). What a privilege and honor it was for me to spend 7 days with my beautiful grandmother last week. We had a wonderful time filled with laughter, stories and making new memories together. It’s amazing to discover our similarities, I feel so proud to know she has influenced much of who I am today. Grandma has taught me so much, not so much through her teachings but more so through her life. She taught me about strength, independence, respect and faith. This week I feel like our hearts have become even more closely knit. I can't imagine what my life will be like without my abuelita. I pray that if we are blessed with our own family some day, that I will be able to instill in them the values and the faith that have been instilled in me through my abuelita.

~ Walking With Grandma ~

I like to walk with Grandma,
Her steps are short like mine.
She doesn’t say “Now hurry up.”
She always takes her time.

I like to walk with Grandma,
Her eyes see things like mine do…
Wee pebbles bright, a funny cloud,
Half hidden drops of dew.

Most people have to hurry,
They do not stop and see…
I’m glad that God made Grandma,
Unrushed and young like me!

Everything my Grandma does
is something special made with love.
She takes the time to add the touch
that says “I love you very much”.

She fixes hurts with a kiss and a smile
and tells good stories grandma-style.
It’s warm and cozy on her lap
for secret telling or a nap.

And when I say my prayers at night
I ask God to bless and hold her tight.
‘Cause when it comes to giving hugs,
my Grandma’s arms are filled with love!
Grandparents and grandchildren,
Together they create
A chain of love
Linking the past
With the future.
The chain may lengthen,
But it will never part.

Who has influenced your life?
How have they influenced you, in what way?
How do you feel as you think of them?

Embrace these wonderful thoughts, be thankful for these special moments make new memories with them if you can or if you can’t think of creative ways to record these special memories. Write down those times for other generations to read, make a painting, a collage, how about a photo album? The options are endless, share your creations on our flickr account if you’d like, I’d love to see!

Welcome Ivy! I loved reading your post! I spent part of last week cleaning out my grandma's house, it was sad, but this week as I brought some of her things home and added them my house I've been reminded of so many wonderful memories, what a legacy of love she left me.

What a lovely post. I am so thrilled you had the chance to spend that special time with her...the poem made me tear up, too. I loved my grandma very much. I would have to say my mom and my grandmother have both influenced me so much, they always made everything "special" and for that I am ever thankful. I try to do that with my kids.
This was a wonderful post, Ivy. I love the picture montage, too!!
