Faded Finds {Ephemera}...

finally!!

sometimes technology...sigh... :0)

this month i wanted to share with you some faded finds that i absolutely adore...

goods that could easily take over home and farm in an instant! ;0)

first up:

ephemera...*bliss*...items that are not intended to be preserved...

isn't that ironic??

i cannot tell you how i pour over old almanacs, farmer's notes, love letters, dictionaries, oh the list just goes on and on...

i recently came upon a farm wife's egg ledger...

who purchased how many, who traded a cup of sugar for a dozen, what day she splurged and purchased popcorn and ice cream for $0.15...

all painstakingly tallied in her graceful penmanship...

the simply beauty, the hard work to scrap together and cherish each penny...

it makes this prairie girl's heart full and feel oh so blessed...

i use many of the pieces i find in my altered art or mixed media...

i also have several hand written accounts of my ancestors framed upon a wall...

what about you dear readers, do you have a *love* for ephemera and if so how do you cherish it?

While cleaning out my grandparents house I found an envelope full of receipts and notes about the building of, every repair and addition to my grandparents house. It was such a great find - I know how much they paid for everything and who did the work.

oh yes ... quite guilty of loving ephemera over here!
i have little treasures tucked into tins everywhere (and most of them i don't remember are there, so always a surprise to find them again ... hee hee) ... but i also have ones of my parents ... i particularly love my dad's wallet as he always had little slips of paper that he cherished ~ like rainfall records ~ he was meticulous in keeping track of all moisture ... : )

The farm wife's ledger sounds like a great find! So much history can be revealed in everyday notations. As for me, I saved a large pack of letters that I had received from an old, family artist friend. Right before he died, a book was written about him and retrospective shows of his paintings were put together. The book author used these letters for his research and referenced them in the book. I was glad they were of value, as many times I had questioned why I was keeping the letters!

thanks for teaching me a new (and very beautiful) word today! I have always been fascinated by old post cards, surviving the years with their hints of stories... :) x denise
