Faded Finds {Blue Glass Jars}...

to me nothing marks the beginning of summer more than the planting of our vegetable garden...

the ability to grow strength and nourishment from one tiny seed never ceases to amaze me...

to work and tend the deep, rich soil that has been turned each and every spring by my family for 100 years is something to cherish...

those who came before always knew the value of hard work and the rewards that it yielded...

they were able to bottle the summer sunshine, preserve the scent of earth and her bounty...

all within crisp, prairie blue canning jars...

the bottles all lined upon the pantry selves sustained many bodies through the winter months...

but also sustained the soul with hope and with the promises of what a new season would bring..

with each morning ray these beautiful jars remind me of the possibilities and promises that await me just beyond the back porch ready to be captured and {preserved}...

I remember those jars as my grandmother did her summer canning ... wonderful memories!

I just love old bottles that have a turquoise cast to the glass. Preserving food in jars is sadly becoming a lost art.

You have such a way with words, Kristin. You'd be an amazing memoirist. And I love the vintage canning jar. I can't wait until our garden begins to flourish and we'll be able to see the fruit of our labor. We just bought a pressure canner and plan on canning everything we can.

How I rememeber canning and "putting up" (as my grandmother would sometimes call it) the fruits of a long summers labor! What joy and satisfaction ;-)

Gardening and canning does indeed nourish the body as well as the soul! Beautiful traditional jar - nice capture!

Beautiful picture, I love the clarity of the blue tinted glass. You have a wonderful way with words, I can imagine those shelves from long ago stacked with the fruits of summer.

I love old Ball jars, I have quite a few around my kitchen. Just planted my vegetable garden yesterday, I was just thinking this morning how satisfying a freshly-planted tomato bed looks.
Lovely post!
