Practice New Intentions

It's that time of year. That time - when we declare our intentions. When we write them down. When we believe that this year we will 'be' better..different..braver...stronger..and always more creative. It's that time of year when we yearn to embrace the 'new'..to stretch..to grow..to reach heights we never before imagined.

I - too - have been caught up and swept away by the forward-looking movement. Choosing a 'word'. Letting that 'word' find and choose me. Embracing it. Internalizing it. Hoping that its spirit and light will guide me.

My intention is set. The energy - I'm hoping - will follow. Just breathe.

But first..and before embracing this 'new'..I'm practicing letting go of the 'old'. Those 'words'..those 'intentions' and 'attitudes'...those 'ways of being' that no longer serve me. Those 'energies' that have been containing..confining..constricting. Those that have sometimes bound..and oftentimes silenced. I'm letting them go.

My 'word' and new intention is to 'grow'. To 'grow' roots that extend deep and wide beneath the nurturing soil. To 'grow' new branches that paint the sky. To 'grow' in ways that I can't - right now - possibly imagine.

With my feet firmly planted..my heart wide open..my hands reaching up and out - I practice. First 'letting go'...and then to 'grow'. Because without one..there can't be the other.

Won't you join me in that?

Beautiful post Marcie. I too am figuring out my one word, and since I'm so not a one word kind of girl it's been a struggle. I will soon reveal my word too.
Your image is beautiful! Thanks for the time it took you to share such lovely thoughts.

Brilliant! I've been caught up in the "word" but haven't stopped to say goodbye and I need to.

Beautiful post. My word for this year is Believe, because I need to stop living small, safe and secure and start to believe that my big dreams are possible.
