Welcome to a brand new year!  Don't you love having a fresh start?  If you are anything like me, you've been cleaning out closets and computer files, setting goals, making resolutions or picking a theme word for 2011.  I love this time of year, it is full of possibilities and hope.

I'm going to kick us off this year with a bit of an obvious theme - for the past week every time I turn around I heard a new song that went along with setting goals and making a fresh start.  I'd put my music on shuffle and there would be a song whose lyrics told me I could do whatever I set my mind to this year.  Do you have songs like that?  Songs you go to when you need encouragement?  If so, please leave them in the comments so we can build a playlist together that will help us reach those intentions!

Let me get us started:

Brett Dennen - Make the Most
Ryan Bingam - Change Is
Zac Brown Band - Let it Go
Linda Eder - Gold
Sara Bareilles - Let the Rain
Little Big Town - Lean Into It

I can't wait to hear your songs!  I've so missed my weekly influx of new music you bring to my life with your suggestions and comments.  I can't wait to hear our first mix of 2011.

Again I discovered great songs I hadn't known before in your playlist - thanks so much for the inspiration! And thanks also for featuring my photo - I feel honoured!
:-)
I absolutely relate to what you're saying - here is one of "my" songs: "Message to Myself", Melissa Etheridge.

Hi dear Jaime! Oh how I look forward to your music list. Sadly I can't really contribute because well... I have been bad with music lately. It's strange I enjoy listening but ever since I left NYC and no longer walked 20 blocks uptown to work I stopped uploading music. Crazy right? anyway, thank you for sharing!

I'm looking forward to your musical suggestions! I usually work in the quiet of my studio, but it's time to try something different:)

oooh. Can't wait to have a listen to the songs you listed.
I'm a huge DMB fan, so his lyrics are usually in my head. You Might Die Trying is a song that reminds me to just begin, that's the hardest part.

mmm ... yes, looking forward to pressing play and enjoying your brilliant mix, jamie!

i am almost always blessed with new music over the holidays so that is how i generally kick off this time of year ~ listening to new artists!

my husband always gives me the gift of a new discovery ~ and usually canadian, which is pretty sweet ... this year i received lily frost's 'virdian torch' recording, most of which isn't available yet on youtube ... but! ... lily's very uplifting song all i ever wanted to be, which is the theme for the tv show 'being erica', is completely delightful!

reach for the sky is both soothing and uplifting ... *sigh*

i have a few of those songs... songs of encouragement... words to live by...

the number one has to be the beatles, all you need is love.

second is the artist that i put on every time i need a lift... never fails to bring a smile to my face... bob marley, three little birds.

a classic is the song 'i can see clearly now'... can't remember who it is by...

and maybe one of my favourite artists, the amazing charlie winston, with 'like a hobo'... or for an even more positive message (doesn't seem like it maybe right off the bat, but if you listen closely, you'll see it is all about loving life, right now)... 'kick the bucket' by the same fella.

hope you had a lovely holiday jamie! can't wait for thursday and to groove to another one of your wonderful mixes! :)

Why am I drawing such a blank here? All I can think of is I've got a new attitude....ugh.
I'm sure that you will come up with a wonderful list, as always.
