Life's Soundtrack - Flowers

155/365: Pink Dogwood

I've spent some time this week browsing all the beautiful photos you've been sharing in the Inspiration Studio Flickr Group for our our celebration of everyday gifts. As I browsed I started to notice a theme:  lots and lots of flowers.  I'm sure it has something to with the coming of Spring, but I also think we all recognize flowers are a gift from nature.

This week we're going to create a playlist based on the flower theme you created through your photos.  Please comment sharing your favorite flower songs.  There are very few limits on this theme, so be creative:
  • the song title could contain the word flower or the name of an actual flower like rose or lily
  • the song could talk about flowers in the lyrics
  • or, if you love songs by Brandon Flowers, Lily Allen or any other artist with a flower theme in their name, feel free to send those in too.
After last week's difficult theme, this one you should be able to do without too much thought.  I'll get us started:

Cotton Mather - Lily Dreams On
The Avett Brothers - Famous Flower of Manhattan
Priscillia Ahn - Wallflower
Ray LaMontagne - You Can Bring Me Flowers
The Weepies - Red Red Rose
Mandy Moore - Gardenia
Sophie Milman - La Vie En Rose

I'll send a little something to anyone who can come up with a song related to ranunculus!

I can't wait to see what you come up with - and please, keep those photos coming into the flickr group, you are such a talented group, we love seeing your work.

Happy Listening

me, again ... just wondering jamie ... does it help if we include a link to youtube of the selection we suggest?
when you plant a seed, i usually go digging and end up finding what i want to contribute and can easily include the link ... : )

if so, this is my fave version of the flower duet ...

First, thanks so much for choosing my dogwood blossom picture! You've made my day!

Bette Midler's song was the first to my mind too!

And then Barbara Streisand's duet with Neil Diamond "You Don't Bring Me Flowers."

My favorite Cocteau Twins song "Blue Bell Knoll", is it about flowers? Who can tell with their lyrics? But the blue bells are lovely in Virginia right now!

And the one that really takes me home, back to Texas, Bluebonnet Girl by the Sons of the Pioneers.
No youtube link -- sadly, but you can hear a sample on amazon.

Okay, I'm really showing my age here! ; )

Little Green by Joni Mitchell has always been a favorite.
And, hahaha, guess what? There is a bad called Ranunculus! It's a little crazy, but I thought it was too funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXBDlzw05O4&feature=related

Answering PG's question - if you have a YouTube link to the version of the song you love, throw it in the comment, it does save me time and ensure it's the version you love. If you don't have a link or don't want to track it down no worry - after all this time I'm pretty good at YouTube searches.

Kelly - I can't BELIEVE you came up with something - I thought I'd come up with the impossible!

Gorgeous photos, and great idea for a playlist Jamie!
The one that immediately comes to mind for me is "The Rose," by Bette Midler.
Have a beautiful weekend.

Flowers do seem to be popular. This one is stunning. What amazes me is how there can be so much variation with the flower theme.

Oh my - what comes to my mind immediately? "La Vie en rose" by Edith Piaf, such a classic. "Sag mir, wo die Blumen sind" by Marlene Dietrich, another classic, don't know the English version, though, sorry.

I've looked around the web a bit. Marlene's song in English is "Where have all the flowers gone".
