in like a lamb

March is finally here. This year, it felt like it would never arrive. And now it has tiptoed in like a lamb, (at least where I live) when I was hoping to hear the roar of that lion...
Outside my window is a landscape of white on grey, beige on brown, the forest green of a few scattered pines, and the red-twigged dogwood that sticks out like a beautiful winter diva.
There is a line from a Counting Crows song that keeps running through my mind..."She is trapped inside a month of grey." This year, that was February for me. The shortest month of the year always ends up feeling like the longest one.
I am craving color like chocolate, literally, physically craving it. And flowers. I go to the flower section of the grocery store just to admire the blossoms. I stand there and let their color sing me happy.
This past weekend, I spent hours with my bead stash, I can always find color there, inspiration for new pieces. I was drawn again and again to the shades of spring, robin's egg blue, pretty pastel pink and daffodil yellow, and that fresh yellow-green of just-opening leaves.
Before I knew it, hours had passed, and while the landscape outside my window had not changed, the one in my heart felt a little bit brighter.
After that, I decided that March must be named The Month of Color. I am going to seek it out, hunt it down, and then embrace it wherever I find it.
My camera will be my companion.
Care to join me?

It's funny, I got a new camera this weekend and went outside to test it out. I was searching for color but was met with the beige on brown that you talk about. Hoping that spring decides to show herself in a blaze of color here soon.

I love what you have done to that photo! You really made spring pop out of the gloom that is winter.

That's exactly how I feel about February--"the shortest month...ends up feeling like the longest"!! And oh how I need some color:)

What a brilliant idea! The world outside my window is so blah - I've been trying to counter that inside the house with lots and lots of color, but you can never have enough.

So what did you make with the beads? When there is little natural color around, tiny little glass beads are wonderful. I've been itching to play with them myself lately.

I'll join you! I'm craving color, too!

Indeed, I'm craving beautiful color also! Luckily, like you, I get to work with color all day in the form of fabric, beads, and paint. But, I am really looking forward to landscapes with some strong color. My camera is hungry for outdoor color!

I think that's what all of my winter still lifes have been about. The 'need' for color! Let's hope that March brings us some of that!!!

So true that the shortest month seemed to go longer than the hurried days of November and december.
Pops of color seem so much brighter this time of year - and are so welcome.

Spring has been whispering to me and, while it is still frighteningly cold, I also have caught the camera bug. Thanks for the wonderful reminder of how close it all is.

Our March roared in a few hours early yesterday evening with straight line winds and a strong thunderstorm and it left behind a beautiful sunny March 1st!

i like to take my time and absorb your writing, kelly ... but i also rush to gobble up the flavour of your words as soon as you post ... and in this case, by doing so, i was sure you were determined to seek colour 'outside' wherever possible, so that is what i have been doing!
hee hee ... *insert yes, i am blonde* ...
no wonder kim was kinda 'stopped' in our convo yesterday when i told her the colour i had found outside ... *_*
anyways ... this morning i am happy to say i am absorbing and loving your idea for the month of color and seek i will! and find i did ... just this morning without having to leave my keyboard or cup of happy molecules! catherine at corner of cats mind is cheering us all with wonderfully colourful images! yay!
oh boy ... sorry, this is getting long ...
i actually have to admit that february is my favourite month of the year ... it is the coming of the light that cheers me like no other ... and usually the temps are more agreeable and i can xcountry ski to enjoy the outdoors and begin pouring over gardening mags as they begin to fill the store shelves ...
thanks for the inspiration, my dear!
