Life's Soundtrack - Whiskered

Is anyone else out there having a hard time getting back into the routine of life after the holidays?  I am.   So this week, I thought we'd put together a super easy and, most importantly, fun playlist.

It's been pointed out to me more than once that I have a "thing" for bearded musicians - and I can't deny it's true.  My iPod is FULL of of the soulful music of these hirsuite men.  Just for kicks, why don't you help me add to my collection.  Take a minute and share in the comments your favorite songs performed by bristly artists (we'll make it even easier, to qualify as bearded they just need to have a bit of scruff, heck he doesn't even need to have a beard today - just had one at some point.)  Let's get started with some of my favorites:

Bon Iver - Flume
Zac Brown Band - Quiet Your Mind
Marc Broussard - Home
Amos Lee - Arms of a Woman
Ray LaMontagne - Jolene
The Avett Brothers - Murdered in the City
Dan Aurbach - When the Night Comes

Last week's theme - music to help us get a fresh start - was a bit of a challenge, but you still came through with some amazing song suggestions.  I think this is just the list we need to help us now that we are a few weeks into the new year when those resolutions and intentions start to get a little more difficult to live up to.

To play the list click on the sideways triangle in the middle of the embedded player.  To skip forward or back to other songs click on the < or > on either side of the player.

I hope you enjoy the Fresh Start playlist and it gives you a bit of motivation this week.  Don't forget to share your favorite songs by bearded musicians in the comments section - I can't wait to hear what you come up with.

Great choices Jamie!
I too, am having a bit of a hard time getting back on track. All of that will necessarily change though this week when the new semester begins, and I am back to work.
I wish you a wonderful weekend!

what a fun topic! jamie... i think there is part of you that must be canadian, as the bearded musician is one of canada's great cultural exports!

do you think those bearded canadian musicians grow their beards because it's so cold? seems likely! it's been -20 here all week and i'm telling you, if i could grow a beard right now, i would! :)

anyway, here's a few of my favourite canadian bearded fellas... PG might know a few more...

after being s w o o n e d by mr. bingham ...
sorry, kristin ~ couldn't help myself! ; )

i think you are right, my sweet bee ... beards are kinda a mandatory thing for fellas in canada ...
-20c? hah! you must live west of here ... we are looking at -35c for tuesday night ... i insist ~ inhumane!!!

i think this first tune pretty much sums it up ...
prairie town with bearded randy bachman and not bearded but long maned neil young ~ both manitoba prairie boys!

ok … and so i come from a time of folk music, just on the tail of hippiedom and have been very influenced by this whiskered, west coast canadian musician ~ valdy … his songwriting and his strumming have always pulled at my heart strings …
a good song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVhb4KFO6nk
play me a rock'n'roll song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtNSljYgDe8&feature=related

now i want to take you to the east coast of canada …
the voice of this remarkable musician and storyteller through song was tragically silenced in a plane crash in 1983 but his voice lives on strong … his songs often sung at folk festivals across the land ~ a legend, to be sure …
stan rogers captured the very heart and spirit of living on the sea and barrett's privateers is no exception …
there are a few whiskers and whiskies going on at this kitchen party ~ oh, to be there …
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-PQbdmQRwc

stan rogers equally captured the spirit of the prairie farmer in the field behind the plow

just so you don't think i am a fuddy duddy and selecting only 'older' guys with beards, peter elkas, this quebec born fella is pretty sweet himself ... sweet nancy

oh, so many whiskers, so little time …

thanks so much jamie for graciously allowing us to share our selections … and for putting together these fabulous play lists … : )
