Photo from Clare B's Photostream and the Inspiration Studio Flickr Group
I was scrolling through the photos in the Inspiration Studio Flickr group, searching for inspiration, and Clare's photo, which was, in turn, inspired by Emily Dickinson's poem "There is Another Sky," pulled me in, and suddenly I knew what this week's post would be about.
There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there.
We all experience life underneath a slight different sky. Our experiences are unique and the art we are exposed to, make and appreciate is influenced by our surroundings. Thanks to the massive spread of the internet it does feel as if our world has shrunk, but it still takes a bit of effort to look beyond your own sky to see the art being created by those on the other side of the earth.
So, this week we are going to build a playlist based on artists from around the world. Please comment and share some of your favorite artists who hail from a country different from your own. I'll get us going with a few of my favorites:
Brazil - Marisa Monte - A Sua
United Kingdom - Adele - Hometown Glory
Norway - Ane Brun - This Voice
Ireland - The Corrs - Little Wing
United Kingdom - Florence & the Machine - Dog Days
Australia - Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson - Rattlin' Bones
Your comments and contributions for last week's theme - female artists who made history - were AMAZING. I can't wait for you to hear the playlist we put together, it is filled to the brim with talent and spirit. If you only have time to listen to one song, chose the last one, k.d. Lang's version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" performed at the 2005 Juno awards, I dare you to get through it without at least tearing up.
I can't wait to have my horizon opened up to new artists from around the world, please contribute your favorites and help us make another amazing playlist to fill our lives and hearts with music.
Happy Listening
Jamie

This playlist is crazy good, and I am only halfway through it! I am sorry I missed adding my 2 cents on this great category last week. Oh well.
As for this week, I have a few suggestions: Susana Baca from Peru [might I suggest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXo4AfC8HFY]
Also, Katell Keineg (France/Wales/Ireland) and Pierce Turner (Ireland).
Thanks Jamie!!
In Italy I've discovered Laura Pausini. She has the most amazing, powerful voice! Give "Un fatto ovvio" a listen.
Lets throw a bit of German culture into it.
Check Xavier Naidoo, Culcha Candela and Annett Louisan. :)
Hope you like them.
And this line :"it still takes a bit of effort to look beyond your own sky to see the art being created by those on the other side of the earth." totally got me today. Thanks Jamie for that inspiration!
Gianni Morandi is an Italian icon in music. His song "Scende la pioggia" (falling rain) is fantastic.
