Inpiration & Dreams - Just Get out of the Way

Do you ever have the feeling that all we need to do is to get out of our own way? That if we did take that one, small, conscious step forward (or sideways, or backward, for that matter) that things would just start to happen?

This begs the belief that there are forces in the universe working for us – call this God, or the providence of fate, or the work of angels, or our very own artistic muse, or your long-gone Great Aunt Mary Imelda, who was also a writer-artist-creative dreamer, pulling for you from the sidelines of heaven. (Please forgive my playful irreverence. Its been a very strange weekend.) No matter what you call it, this synchronicity of events has happened too many times before for me to ignore its existence.

And sometimes all it takes to trigger this synchronicity is the articulation of a dream.

For example, eight years ago at the end of my annual performance review I happened to mention in passing to my very nice boss that I wanted to live again in Europe someday. (I spent two years in France as a teenager...) Somehow this very nice boss thought that I would leave the company if an opportunity didn't appear and three weeks later I got a call. It was as easy as that, yes.

The opportunity was there in a flash, though I still needed to interview for the job. And once I had the job, I needed to find the courage to say good-bye to my family and friends, my horse, my cat, and a place I had happily lived for 13-some years to start again. To start again in another country, to rebuild a life, and to learn to drive on the other side of the road.

Do I regret? Never. Was it hard? You bet. Hardest thing and yet, the most wonderful thing I've ever done in my life before becoming a mother.

And so, do your work. Prepare and store up your courage. Articulate your dream and then, get out of the way for things to start to happen. Don't worry, you will be called on to do more work. You will be tested. You will need your courage. But the help will be there.

The help is not only much needed, but it is confirmation that you are on the right path. Delightfully, I find this synchronicity happening for me again. More on this next time.

ps. Thanks Aunt Mary...

I am there right now, in that place, ready to get out of my own way, still stumbling over myself just a little, but I am there. I love your images, and your words, truly an inspiration.

nodding yes to your words ...
and nodding yes to all the comments ...
the last image and words really resonate ...
to be aware that we are in our own way
is such an awakening in itself ...
i am afraid i have done it a great deal lately ...
i think your words may have done
more for me than you could ever know ...

blessings to you and thank you!
